Good Writers Borrow; Great Writers Steal
我最早接触的 Aaron Sorkin 作品应当是《社交网络》，但直到遇见 The Newsroom 才意识到这位天才编剧的存在。从此一发不可收拾，追着补了好多 Sorkin 大人的作品。大段的快速对白，幽默的语言，不反智又立场鲜明的政治讨论，mission to civilize 等对理想主义的坚持，所有这些都成了 Aaron Sorkin 深深击中我的点。
在这些作品中，某些戏剧要素被 Sorkin 不止一次使用过。这种带点小得意的重复也好，自我致敬也好，也形成了一种 Sorkin 特有的印记，熟悉的观众看到了估计也会像我一样会心一笑吧。
这里尝试整理了若干在 The Newsroom, The West Wing, 和 Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip 中出现的挪用。正如 Sorkin 自己借 Sam Seaborn 之口所说

卡扎菲的拼写

“I met this man twice!” Leo McGarry 也打电话给《纽约时报》说他们填字游戏里的卡扎菲拼错了。The West Wing S01E01
Ave Maria
“Schubert is crazy, you know.” Josh Lyman said to C.J.
的确，舒伯特版本的圣母颂真是太美了。Josh 在心理医生那就说他那一天脑海里都在重复这段旋律。从心理医生处回到办公室，Josh 则一个人躲起来听圣母颂。 The West Wing S01E05
He who sings prays twice. Will 和 MacKenzie 的那段婚礼蒙太奇，配合女生吉它弹唱版本的 Ave Maria，同样好美。 The Newsroom S03E04
装修掉天花板
Sorkin 同学你这个梗也是够了！
从 Josh 差点被砸 (The West Wing S01E09) 到 Will 差点被砸 (The Newsroom S01E02)。
Gather ye Rose-buds while ye may
花开堪折直须折。Donna 引用这句诗劝 Josh 去约 Joey Lucas (心疼 Donna 同学一秒) The West Wing S01E16
MacKenzie 同样引用这句诗告诫 Jim，让他大胆去追 Maggie (虽然搞出了巨大乌龙) The Newsroom S01E09
坏转椅
Josh Lyman 的椅子坏了，然后摔了一跤。等到了 Newsroom 里，Don Keefer 也有一把坏了的转椅，而且摔了不止一跤。
I could have been a doctor.
Maggie: I could have been a doctor.
Jim: What happend?
Maggie: Well, I didn’t go to medical school or anything.
Maggie 此处的幽默 President Bartlet 也用过。同样的句式，只不过在 The West Wing 中，这位经济学教授用的是化学家。
把写上字的餐巾纸放入水杯
MacKenzie 把写有敏感信息的餐巾纸放入酒杯中让墨水消失。The Newsroom S03E03
Josh 在跟 Joey Lucas 讨论特殊民调后，同样把对方写了字的餐巾放入杯中。The West Wing S02E20
总是被叫错名字的 Margaret
刚休假回来的 Will 叫错 Maggie (Margaret) 的名字，认为她是之前的助理 Ellen。 The Newsroom S01E01
同样 Bruno 也把 Leo 的助理 Margaret 叫错成 Stacey，并说那上个在这工作的是叫 Margaret (其实 Bruno 并没有认错是故意的啦)。 The West Wing S03E19
Camelot
在 The Newsroom S01 里 MacKenzie 和 Will 在讨论中引用了 Camelot。特别是结尾处 Will 指着 “sorority girl” 说她就是 Camelot 里那个最后的孩子。
在 The West Wing S04E02 里 Sam 也引用了 Camelot。本文的标题——Good writers borrow. Great writers steal——也正是出自那一集。
停电
当需要上帝给一个暗示时，突然停电可能是非常明显的信号了。在 Studio 60 E03 里就出现这一幕。
MacKenzie 也发出过同样的呼唤，然后就整栋大楼停电了。The Newsroom S01E08
I didn’t know he had that kind of comic timing.
p.s. MacKenzie 的演员 Emily Mortimer 的英式口音非常迷人。比如这句的声调就让人难以忘记。
It’s not news; it’s entertainment.
为了收视率而必须报道一宗谋杀案时，MacKenzie 抗议说这不是新闻，这是娱乐。 The Newsroom S01E08
同样的质问也在 Studio 60 和 The West Wing 中出现过。
多说一句，这个在中国情况就更糟了。例如翻看微博上各个头条新闻帐号每天发的内容，对着每一条都可以默默问一句，is it news, entertainment, or propaganda?
Where is everybody?
Studio 60 E07 与 The Newsroom S01E01 都出现了这句。嗯，单纯就是觉得有些好玩，索性也列在这吧。
Anonymous comment
Sorkin 不止一次用狗来讥讽网络匿名评论者。The Newsroom S01E06 里用的是 Basset hound，Studio 60 里则用的是拉布拉多。
Matt-Harriet, Will-MacKenzie
在 Studio 60 里，Matt 在 Harriet 出现之后才开始迸发创作才华，Harriet 也因为 Matt 的作品而开始走红。
类似的，Charlie Skinner 也这样评价 Will 和 MacKenzie 之间的张力。他对 Mac 说: “Will may have been at his best when you were his EP. But I’d remind you that you were at your best when he was your anchor.”
以上罗列的取材范围包括 The Newsroom, The West Wing 的全部，以及 Studio 60 的前 15 集（后面的还没看）。相比 Sorkin 剧集的主菜，这些有意思的呼应只是些小点缀。但它们足够有趣，所以我也就专门做了这个粗略的整理，日后还会继续补充。毕竟 Sorkin 的对白写得如此精彩，完全值得多刷几遍。
